Providing British Labradors for Family and Field

Our purpose is to provide Labradors that are suitable for both family and field. Even though the UK and Irish field bred Labradors are generally suitable for such, we still do our diligence in selecting the right dam and sire for the job. We consider many different characteristics when determining a mating: general personality, demeanor under pressure, field abilities, trainability, energy level, prey drive, self control and discipline, etc.  Considering these characteristics, we do our best to determine the type of pups we assume they’d make.  The assumed pups must be something that we would be excited about having a family member regardless of our intent to keep one or not. We want to provide families with opportunities to have an outstanding gundog and the best family companion they’ll ever have.

Puppy Purchase Process

• The price for our pups are $2,000 and we require a $300 deposit. Deposit is nonrefundable unless we are unable to provide a puppy.
• A deposit will secure a pick position for the color and sex of your choice. i.e. – 1^st pick Black Male – 3^rd pick Yellow Female. The only colors we will have are black and yellow. Yellow can range from white to fox red.
• A Pick-Up Date will be given a few weeks in advance. It will most likely be the first weekend after pups turn 8 weeks old.
• Puppies will be vaccinated per our veterinarian’s schedule until pup goes to their new home.
• UNLIMITED AKC REGISTRATION will be provided with each pup.
• We also provide a 26 Month Health Guarantee. This is a warranty for any genetic issues that may arise with pup over a 26 month period. Even though we go through extensive testing and do not expect anything less than providing healthy and happy pups, we want you to know that we stand by the pups that we provide.

Health Testing: Hips, Elbows, Eyes, and DNA Recessive Genes

At Marlen Gundogs, we take pride in our diligence to responsibly create suitable companions and working dogs for our customers. All of our dams and sires are health tested to breed standards. This includes: Hip, Elbow, and Eye scoring and certifications via The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or BVA scoring method. We also conduct DNA recessive gene tests for all of our dams and sires.

• Our goal is to create CLEAR puppies but there may be an instance where a dam or sire is a carrier for a specific DNA recessive gene. These carriers will only be mated to a dog CLEAR for the same DNA recessive gene. This guarantees a status of either CLEAR or CARRIER – never AFFECTED. All of our health testing results can be found on our individual dog profiles. We use EmbarkVet for our DNA recessive gene testing. Embark currently tests against 240+ recessive genes including 27 that are standard to the Labrador breed.
• We will have hip and elbows scored by either the OFA or by Lavelle's Diagnostic Imaging. We only breed dogs whose scores reflect not having dysplasia. 
• Eye Certifications performed by a certified Ophthalmologist resulting in NORMAL is also a prerequisite for our breeding pool unless scoring has been performed prior to import.

26 Month Health Guarantee

Our mission is to provide happy and healthy pups to our customers. However, we want to make sure that our customers are supported should issues arise with your pup. Marlen Gundogs provides a 26 month health warranty to ensure that you are receiving a healthy companion. This warranty includes coverage or replacement if issues relating to genetic disorders are discovered during the warranty period. More details can be provided upon request.
